How PM Surya Ghar subsidy is calculated
Central subsidy slabs (residential, as of May 2026):
• Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW (1 kW = ₹30,000; 2 kW = ₹60,000)
• 3rd kW: +₹18,000 (so 3 kW = ₹78,000)
• 3 kW and above: capped at ₹78,000 (no extra above 3 kW; residential eligibility up to 10 kW)

Rooftop solar in Tripura: TSECL, net metering and PM Surya Ghar

Power across Tripura is supplied by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), the state DISCOM. TSECL runs the metering, connections and rooftop-solar applications, and it has been active in the PM Surya Ghar programme, with the utility already disbursing subsidy to hundreds of households that turned into small power producers.

Net metering and the 2025 tariff

Under net metering the units your panels export are set off against the units you import, and you pay only the net. A revised tariff took effect from late 2025 with only minor changes; domestic slabs run from about 5.25 rupees per unit for the first 50 units up to roughly 7.75 rupees for heavy use, with a small fixed charge and 5 percent duty. We use a representative figure near 6.5 rupees per unit. Because these rates are far higher than in the low-tariff territories, bill savings in Tripura are meaningful and payback tends to be quicker.

Tripura is a special-category North-East state, which may make it eligible for enhanced central assistance above the standard figures. A quick worked example

Take a 3 kW system in Agartala. At about 4.2 units per kW per day it makes near 12.6 units a day, close to 378 units a month over the year. At around 6.5 rupees a unit that is roughly 2,450 rupees of value a month, near 29,000 rupees a year, before monsoon dips.
