1 Your electricity

Enter your 6-digit PIN to auto-fill your district's average daily generation from NASA satellite data. You can always edit it below.

₹/unit

Indian residential tariffs typically run ₹6–₹9 per unit and rise every year. Check a recent bill for your exact slab rate.

2 Cost & generation

₹/kW

A complete on-grid setup (panels, inverter, structure, wiring, installation) runs about ₹50,000–₹60,000 per kW in 2026. Tier-1 brands (Tata, Adani, Waaree) cost a little more.

units/kW/day

Most of India gets about 4 units (kWh) per kW per day on average; sunnier states (Rajasthan, Gujarat) can reach 4.5–5.

3 Subsidy & state top-up

Central subsidy: ₹30,000/kW up to 2 kW, +₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000 for any system 3 kW and above (residential, up to 10 kW). As of May 2026 (per MNRE). Always confirm current rates at pmsuryaghar.gov.in before applying.

₹/kW

Some states add their own subsidy on top of the central one (e.g. Gujarat has offered ₹10,000/kW). Enter your state's per-kW top-up if any — leave 0 if unsure. Verify with your DISCOM.

How PM Surya Ghar subsidy is calculated
Central subsidy slabs (residential, as of May 2026):
• Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW (1 kW = ₹30,000; 2 kW = ₹60,000)
• 3rd kW: +₹18,000 (so 3 kW = ₹78,000)
• 3 kW and above: capped at ₹78,000 (no extra above 3 kW; residential eligibility up to 10 kW)

Net cost = system cost − central subsidy − state top-up. Annual savings = annual units generated × tariff (capped at your usage). Payback = net cost ÷ annual savings; the free-electricity date is today plus the payback period. Rooftop solar in Manipur: MSPDCL, net metering and the 2026 picture

Retail power in Manipur is distributed by the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL). The state imports most of its electricity and runs relatively high domestic tariffs, while supply in valley and hill areas is frequently interrupted. High per-unit costs plus unreliable supply make a well-sized rooftop system, ideally with a battery, a practical upgrade rather than a luxury.

Net metering and how you connect

MSPDCL runs a rooftop net-metering programme through its solar portal. Units exported to the grid are set off against units you import, and you are billed on the net balance. Because upper domestic slabs are costly, solar you consume during daylight is worth more than solar you export, so build the array around your daytime load first.

Sunshine and grid reliability

Manipur enjoys decent sun across the Imphal valley, but the south-west monsoon and hill cloud cut generation for weeks, and outages are common. We use a conservative yield of about 4 units per kW per day as an annual average. With frequent interruptions, pairing panels with storage keeps essentials running when MSPDCL supply drops. Plan backup with our off-grid solar calculator and battery bank calculator.

How PM Surya Ghar applies

The national PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana pays 30,000 rupees per kW for the first 2 kW, adds 18,000 for the third kW, and caps at 78,000 rupees for systems of 3 kW and above (up to 10 kW residential), released as a bank transfer after commissioning, with collateral-free loans near 7 percent. Manipur is a PM Surya Ghar special-category North-East state, so enhanced central assistance may be available; treat it as unconfirmed and verify current terms on pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Compare options on the on-grid solar calculator.

A quick worked example

Take a 3 kW system in Imphal. At about 4 units per kW per day it makes roughly 12 units daily, near 360 units a month averaged over the year. Offsetting units worth about 7 rupees each, that is close to 2,520 rupees of monthly value before monsoon dips. After the 78,000 rupee subsidy, the high local tariff tends to give a short payback. Frequently asked questions

Who provides net metering in Manipur?

MSPDCL, the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited, runs rooftop net metering through its solar portal. You apply to MSPDCL, install on the self-owned CAPEX model, and claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy after commissioning and inspection.

Is solar worth it given Manipur's tariffs?

Generally yes. Manipur's domestic tariff is on the higher side, so each self-consumed solar unit offsets a costly grid unit. Even at a conservative 4 units per kW per day, the high tariff usually makes payback attractive over a few years.

Do I need a battery in Manipur?

For many homes it helps a lot. Supply interruptions are common, so a battery lets solar keep lights, fans and a fridge running during outages. Use our battery bank and off-grid calculators to size storage to the backup hours you want.

How much subsidy is confirmed for Manipur?

The national PM Surya Ghar amount: 30,000 per kW up to 2 kW, plus 18,000 for the third kW, capped at 78,000 rupees for 3 kW and above, paid after commissioning. As a special-category North-East state, extra central help may apply, but verify current terms on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
