How PM Surya Ghar subsidy is calculated
Central subsidy slabs (residential, as of May 2026):
• Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW (1 kW = ₹30,000; 2 kW = ₹60,000)
• 3rd kW: +₹18,000 (so 3 kW = ₹78,000)
• 3 kW and above: capped at ₹78,000 (no extra above 3 kW; residential eligibility up to 10 kW)

Rooftop Solar in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh supplies electricity through three DISCOMs: APSPDCL across the south-central districts, APEPDCL in the north-east around Visakhapatnam, and APCPDCL in the central region. All three bill under the same APERC retail schedule, so a rooftop plan behaves similarly whether you live in Tirupati, Vizag or Vijayawada.

Net metering and tariffs

In 2025 APERC moved to waive application, feasibility and net-metering charges for domestic rooftop systems up to 10 kW under PM Surya Ghar, which lowers the paperwork cost of going solar. Under net metering, units you export offset units you import, so every self-consumed unit saves the full retail rate. Domestic slabs are stepped, and a mid-to-high consumption home effectively pays in the region of Rs 7 per unit, though your own slab may differ.

Sunshine and generation

Andhra Pradesh is one of the sunnier states, averaging roughly 4.5 units per installed kW per day across the year. A 3 kW array therefore generates close to 4,900 units annually. The national PM Surya Ghar subsidy pays Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, plus Rs 18,000 for the third kW, capping at Rs 78,000 for 3 kW and above. It is credited by DBT after commissioning, and a collateral-free loan near 7 percent is available up to Rs 2 lakh.

Take a 3 kW rooftop system in Guntur. At about 4.5 units per kW it yields near 4,900 units a year. Offsetting consumption at roughly Rs 7 per unit, that is close to Rs 34,000 saved annually before any export credit.
